Interior Design
The Heuboden (literally „hay loft“ in German) is a revitalized barn in the Waldviertel region, offering cyclists a stylish yet down-to-earth retreat. A modern, freestanding interior structure has been added to the original barn, providing sleeping accommodations, sanitary facilities, and storage space. A carefully planned circulation system allows visitors to explore different levels and perspectives within the space.
A glass roof opens up the barn to house a greenhouse, a mobile kitchen, and a viewing platform, transforming the Heuboden into more than just a place to stay—it serves as a communal hub for events, educational projects, and regional initiatives.
The architectural design harmonizes historic wooden structures with white-glazed KLH spruce wood, while textured concrete featuring a hay pattern and lighting installations inspired by grain stalks reinforce the rural aesthetic. The result is a functional, inviting space deeply connected to its surroundings.
